Dark Shadows is a fantastically dark and gothic attempt at horror that sees a vampire battle with a number of supernatural characters as well as his own strange family. The family’s legendary Barnabus Collins, played by modern-day movie legend and director, Tim Burton’s favourite casting choice, Johnny Depp, was once a rich playboy who broke the heart of a stunning witch, Angelique. Unfortunately, he messed with the wrong witch and she made him live to regret it. However, after being buried alive for 2 centuries, he is freed to discover that he now lives in the 1970s. He returns to his family home where he finds it is no longer in the shape that he remembers it to be. He vows to return his family’s business to his former glories and once Angelique finds out that he’s back, sparks really begin to fly.

The production has built up a first-class reputation throughout the world thanks to its version that runs at Her Majesty’s Theatre at the West End in London. It has further been seen on Broadway as well as in a movie version in 2004 which ensures that worldwide audiences know this amazing story.

The focus of the plot takes place in the early 20^th century at the Paris Opera House with a disfigured yet mysterious composer lurking behind the scenes who is the cause of chaos at inopportune moments. He falls for a singer called Christian Daaé who fails to succeed in securing a role in the latest opera at the venue and it doesn’t take long to see that there will be a price to pay.

It is a typical open mic night for new comic talent but combined with a gong show. It is hosted by one of its regular compères who also have the knack for telling a joke or two.

Three audience members are presented with a cardboard frog and if they decide that they should be booted off, they hold up the frog in the air. If all three audience members hold up the frog within five minutes, they are forced to leave the stage. If they beat the frog, they make a brief return to the stage at the end where the overall winner is decided by the loudest round of applause.

Think of the evening not unlike Britain’s Got Talent but with the emphasis firmly on making you laugh. And if they fail at that, you have three frog-holding fellow audience members to help you out.

It is a crazy yet enjoyable evening where the audience, typically a generous one, provide each act with a sufficient amount of good will. It is this good will combined with humour and participate that makes this one of the consistently greatest Manchester social events.

The museum is simply huge. You will probably be wondering why you never visited such a museum when you were at school. Unless, of course, you did actually visit this museum when you were at school.

You could spend an entire day here, no problem. There are so many different buildings and different floors that spending just a couple of hours will only give you a sample but then you can always visit again at a later date. We may get lost in the interactive games area which can be a lot of fun. There’s also the underground sewer part which sounds creepy but can be an interesting adventure.

MOSI is set in the heart of Castlefield and is absolutely a venue that everyone living in the city of Manchester should visit at some point. There is also a cafe that serves great snacks which will give us a break from the knowledge and excitement of the attractions. It is a great place to visit to meet some new like-minded people. Your new Manchester friends will also possess a curiosity for knowledge and there are bound to be a few stimulating conversations on the cards.  But don’t worry, we’ll still have time to be just plain silly when the moment calls for it

Future Perfect is a great day for everyone who attends and the speed of ticket sales shows just how popular an event it is. It is kicking off a season of festivals in some style.

Apart from the stages, there is also a creative marquee which wil see you  expressing your art and crafts talents. It allows you to create and enjoy those creations of your fellow attendees.

Future Perfect will be raising funds for The Christie on the day by aiding cancer sufferers through care, cutting-edge research and crucial treatment. The day is held in memory of Lee Wyatt who in 2010, sadly passed away. It is not only held in memory of Lee, however, but also everyone else who has been affected some way by cancer.

If we are able to show support to The Christie by holding one event at a time, thousands can be helped. And thousands who need the help can see their whole lives changed.

So come along and meet some new Manchester friends whilst celebrating life. We will all live in the moment on this great day for a fantastic cause!

The walk covers close to 25 miles and will see us climbing more than 5,000 feet. We will be covering a variety of terrains and although there have been huge improvements made to the paths in recent years, there remain sections which can be energy sapping and boggy which is what makes this such a challenge.

For anyone wishing to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks, you should know in advance that it is one of the UK’s greatest outdoor challenges. The day will be a tough one but will be worth it for that satisfactory feeling you will get once you have completed it.

We will also get to see the ever-changing and dramatic scenery with wildlife and flowers around us, making it a great day for nature lovers as well as challenge seekers.

It is also a great opportunity to meet new people in Manchester before we head off and know that we will be under-taking the challenge with people who we may yet just become good friends with. After all, there’s no greater Manchester activity to bind us than a challenge such as this one.

The views from the Hilton venue, Cloud 23 are simply stunning and perhaps offer the best view of the city, the Manchester Wheel aside. You can also see the set of Britain’s’ favourite soap, Coronation Street, one of the highlights of the venue.

So it could be considered a surprising move by ITV to hire dancing girls and all in order to transform the popular soap into a full-blown musical spectacle that has been compared by its creator to Moulin Rouge.

But that is exactly what they have done with a set that is to recreate the famous street with flamboyant frocks and musical numbers including titles such as ‘ Nowt A Bit Of Lippy Couldn’t Solve’ and ‘ Eh Chuck’.

Past members to return include Brian Capron who played evil killer, Richard Hillman, and Kevin Kennedy who played series regular, Norman ‘Curly’ Watts. Katy Cavanagh will take on the role of an ‘Angel of the North’ character as the show shows us glimpses of its 51-year-old history.

Executive producer Kieran Roberts is hopeful that the idea will be popular with soap fans in he kind of numbers that are capable of filling arenas in Newcastle, Belfast, Dublin and Manchester. If it is well received, it may move on to further cities, a Manchester event or not.
