The Blue John Cavern in the Peak District is a series of caverns considered to be the finest range in Great Britain.
The Cavern Tours are of immense educational interest showing clearly how the caverns are formed in limestone strata and how the limestone itself had much earlier been formed by the deposits on the floors of great oceans which have long since receded, as the fossilised remains of marine animals now show.
The tour of the cavern commences with the descent of a short flight of steps through a man made passageway some fifteen yards in length, and from the foot of this stairway visitors pass at once into the beginning of the natural caverns. From this point on the awe-inspiring majesty of the Caverns can be appreciated.
*PLEASE NOTE* - THE BLUE JOHN CAVERN IS NOT SUITABLE FOR PEOPLE WITH HEART CONDITIONS, BREATHING OR MOBILITY PROBLEMS AS THERE ARE A LARGE NUMBER OF STEPS.
SUITABLE PROTECTIVE FOOTWEAR WITH GOOD TREAD IS RECOMMENDED WHEN VISITING THIS ATTRACTION. THANK YOU!
