It's a social session for players of all abilities who want to play a friendly team game.
Rounders brings back distant memories of sunny afternoons in the park or the school yard cheering on fellow team mates. But rounders is not just for school kids. It's currently experiencing a surge in adult participation, with over 40 leagues and 58,000 adults now regularly playing the game around the country.
It offers a good opportunity to get outside into the fresh air and sunshine. It is good exercise and can improve fitness.
What's the aim of the game? The rules of rounders are similar to those of softball and baseball. A ball is thrown by a pitcher to a batter. After the batter hits the ball, he or she runs in a circle, passing a series of markers on the way. Fielders try to catch or collect the ball while the batter runs. The batter is out if the ball is caught before it hits the ground or if the ball is fielded before the batter reaches a marker. Simplified rules of the game can be downloaded from the Rounders England website.
Rob your host will TEXT you on the day telling you where he is and what he's wearing at Didsbury so you'll have his number just in case you're running late or want him to meet you outside first.
