Long synopsis: In this powerful true story, Hilary Swank plays Betty Ann Waters, an unemployed single mother who spends over two decades tirelessly working to exonerate her wrongfully convicted brother. In 1983, trouble-maker Kenny Waters (Sam Rockwell) was convicted of murdering Katharina Brow in Ayer, Massachusetts - a crime he insists he didn't commit. Even though Betty has no qualifications to her name, she vows to clear his name, putting herself through law school while working as a waitress and raising two sons. After graduating against all the odds, Betty turns to The Innocence Project, a non-profit organisation devoted to overturning wrongful convictions, to help her obtain the vital DNA evidence that will prove Kenny's innocence. But can she really take on the American judical system - and win?
