Burbage Edge, Goyt Valley and Shining Tor from Derbyshire Bridge
Distance: 12 miles
Duration: 6h
Difficulty: 2-3
Upper Goyt valley with its combination of river, moorland, valley and reservoir landscapes is a famous scenic spot, some say best of its kind in the whole of Britain. With a long ridge running from Shining Tor down to Windgather rocks on one side and the Burbage edge on the other, the walks in this area are ones of the most picturesque in the Peak District. We will start our walk at the Derbyshire Bridge car park and climb up to the trig point at Burbage Edge before descending towards the Errwood Reservoir in the Goyt Valley. We will then walk past the pretty ruins of the XIX century Errwood Hall and climb to the trig point at Shining Tor (559m/1,834ft), the highest point in Cheshire, before descending back to the cars via Goyt’s Clough and stopping at the Stanley Arms on the way back to Manchester for a well deserved Sunday roast.
Kit list: walking boots (no trainers), hiking trousers (no jeans), warm clothes, waterproofs, hat, gloves, tea flask, sandwich
