The Yorkshire Sculpture Park in West Yorkshire is an open-air gallery showing work by UK and international artists, including Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth. It was the UK's first sculpture park based on the temporary open air exhibitions organised in London parks from the 1940s to 1970s by the Arts Council and London County Council. The 'gallery without walls' has a changing exhibition programme, rather than permanent display as seen in other UK sculpture parks such as Grizedale Forest. This year they feature the first ever UK exhibition of Joan Miró’s (one of Europe’s most important 20th century artists) sculptures. Set in the grounds of the 18th century Bretton Hall, the park spreads over 500acres of rural northern landscape, making it a truly unique place to visit.
We will drive to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and walk in the grounds admiring the open air exhibition, before sitting down to a lovely Sunday lunch in the park’s lovely restaurant.
Admission to the park is free, car parking charges apply.
