2 Night Scenic Canal Boat trip from the Peak District to Manchester
Wandering Duck has teamed up with Social Circle to offer a weekend away on their 69ft Hostel Boat. Have a go at steering, work the locks, chill out and enjoy the scenery. In the evenings enjoy the on-board honesty bar and some decent boat-cooked food, then on to the pub. If you've always wanted to have a go on a canal boat and never got around to it, now is the perfect opportunity!
Limited to only 8 social circle members so book now.
The trip starts at Whaley Bridge on the Peak Forest Canal close to the Peak District National Park. On Friday we cruise for a short distance (around 30 mins) to Buxsworth Basin, their home mooring. We then moor up for the evening, have dinner on the boat, and have the choice of 2 pubs to visit nearby.
On Saturday we have a fairly easy morning as we travel along the Peak Forest Canal towards Marple. There are 2 lift bridges and 2 swing bridges along this section and the scenery is fantastic. Have a go at steering, or read a book out on the front deck.
After lunch comes the hard work - a flight of 16 locks to get through as we decend through the Marple Lock Flight. It is your choice whether you help out with the locks, or simply watch from the boat. There is also the option to take a walk around Marples Roman Lakes Park.
After the 16 Locks the chances are you'll be ready for a beer - Wandering Duck has a small honesty bar so help yourself as we finally make our way across the stunning Marple Aqueduct. Saturday evening we moor up just past the Marple Aqueduct. The nearest pub from here is a short walk back to Marple, but you're welcome to stay on the boat and make yourself at home - beer/wine/music/guitar/books/games are all available!
Sunday morning after breakfast we continue cruising for around 1 hour to Romiley, travelling through the 300 metre Hyde Bank Tunnel on the way.
