The North West Film Archive is proud to present ‘Manchester on Film’, chosen from the collections to illustrate the industries, cultures and traditions of the City at the heart of the North West. Lovingly curated and introduced by a member of the Archive’s staff, this special festival screening is a must-see for all lovers of film, history, and the City of Manchester.
Featuring films from the 1910s to the 1970s, this selection evokes everyday life on the City’s streets and in its docks and markets, as well as showing the citizens of Manchester in times of crisis and celebration.
These films highlights Manchester's international and historical importance - featuring shots of the John Rylands Library, Trafford Park, the Manchester Ship Canal, Manchester Airport, Jodrell Bank and Manchester University. Manchester is shown to be a vibrant city, a variety of shops are seen as is a nightclub. Joe Mercer, manager of Manchester City, talks about football in the city and there is footage of Manchester United versus Chelsea and much, much, more......
