A paralysed journalist yearns to lose his virginity in this funny, frank and life-affirming tale. An award-winning hit at Sundance 2012, 'The Sessions' is based on the true story of poet and journalist Mark O'Brien. A man of sharp wit and compassionate humour, O'Brien (John Hawkes) is forced to cope with restricted mobility following an attack of polio in childhood. However, like any able-bodied man, he wishes to experience sexual pleasure and decides to hire a 'sex surrogate' in order to lose his virginity. After consulting with his priest (William H. Macy), O'Brien hires Cheryl (Helen Hunt) to be his surrogate. Despite the unusual and challenging circumstances, a relationship develops between the two of them. Applauded for its honest, humorous approach to the difficulties O'Brien faced in life, 'The Sessions' features winning central performances and is a heart-warming exploration of love in the face of adversity.
