THE CHARITY
The event is organised by a fundraising group called Cancer Care Therapies.
The aim is to raise funds for the Complementary Therapy Service at The Christie which is totally charity funded.
The team offers a range of therapies to help alleviate the physical and emotional affects experienced by patients and their carers as a result of a cancer diagnosis. As an integrated part of the rehabilitation unit the team offer evidence based treatments such as massage, aromatherapy, hypnotherapy, acupuncture, reflexology, touch therapy, creative visualisation and other various stress management techniques.
These therapies are designed to complement patient’s treatments, they are provided free of charge to patients and carers, and can help in various ways:
-
Dealing with stress, fears, anxieties, phobias and panic attacks
-
Reduce or alleviate the side effects of the treatments e.g. nausea, neuropathy, pain, dry mouth, fatigue, hot flashes
-
Helps patients to relax and cope with difficult procedures e.g. surgery, cannulation, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, MRI scans
-
Smoking/alcohol cessation support
Everyone involved in organising the evening and all the acts are giving their time for free and so all the profit will go towards running the Complementary Therapy Service at The Christie. The service is not funded by the NHS but is vital to helping the patients and carers alike on their cancer journey. The team provide massage, hypnotherapy, acupuncture, aromatherapy etc. These therapies help to deal with the emotional and physical effects of the cancer treatment.
