A troubled young woman is prescribed a mysterious new drug in this compelling drama from director Steven Soderbergh. Emily (Rooney Mara) is plagued by irrational anxieties. Her emotional and psychological problems are exacerbated by the imminent release of her husband Martin (Channing Tatum) from prison. On the advice of her psychiatrist Jonathan (Jude Law), Emily is prescribed a new drug with the aim of keeping her anxiety under control. Initially, the drug seems to do the trick and invests Emily with a sense of clarity that helps to rekindle the spark in her marriage - until she's suddenly implicated in a shocking death. The finger of blame points directly at Emily, but does the wider issue in fact stem from the medication she is using? Soon, everyone is caught in an escalating vortex of lies and deceit. Soderbergh's provocative new film is a sophisticated, engrossing look at a highly controversial subject, underscored with the director's characteristic intelligence.
