Come and join us to discuss this month's book which is The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde over a drink or two. Most of us will also be having a bite to eat as well. And don't forget to come with your suggestion for our next book.

There is another 1985, somewhere in the could-have-been, where the Crimean war still rages, dodos are regenerated in home-cloning kits and everyone is deeply disappointed by the ending of 'Jane Eyre'. In this world there are no jet-liners or computers, but there are policemen who can travel across time, a Welsh republic, a great interest in all things literary - and a woman called Thursday Next.

Literary questions (especially the question of Shakespearean authorship) are debated so hotly that they sometimes inspire gang wars and murder. While regular law enforcement agencies still exist, new ones have also been created to deal with Time Travel and literature related crimes.

The book was generally acclaimed, with Fforde's quirky writing style compared to other notable writers, lost frequently Douglas Adams for similar "surrealism and satire", and Lewis Carroll, for similar "nonsense and wordplay". The novel was praised for its fast-paced action, wordplay and "off-centre humour".
