Benedict Cumberbatch plays Wikileaks founder Julian Assange in the thrilling story of the whistleblowing website. Young internet idealists Julian Assange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Daniel Domscheit-Berg (Daniel Bruhl) found the Wikileaks website on a shoestring budget. Their intention is to hold the powerful to account by providing an outlet for whistleblowers. They quickly make headlines with the leaking of military footage showing unarmed journalists being gunned down. But when Wikileaks publishes the biggest trove of classified US documents in history, the organisation finds itself in deep water. While supporters hail this as a blow against government secrecy, opponents accuse them of putting lives at risk. Directed by Bill Condon, 'The West Wing' writer Josh Singer's engrossing political thriller is based in part on Domscheit-Berg's book about his experiences. TV's Sherlock Holmes, Benedict Cumberbatch, delivers an uncannily accurate performance as Assange. Watch out too for new Doctor Who Peter Capaldi as Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger!
