The total distance is about 10 miles, with some ups and downs for sure, but we're by no means walking (or, ahem, cycling) up to Flash from sea level. We can also shorten the route slightly if the weather turns foul.

Flash & Three Shire Heads Walk

This circular walk will take us through the village of Flash, the highest village in England (a fact I learned for myself as a teenager when I read it on the welcome sign *after* having ridden up there on my pushbike.  Happy days.)

It's also the root of the phrase "flash money", owing to local 18th century counterfeiters.

Then we go on to Three Shire Heads - an old packhorse bridge over the river Dane where Cheshire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire meet.

And then, as if that isn't already too much excitement, we'll go to a pub for a late lunch. Maybe even having such medieval themed delights as "Guinevere's Gammon" and "Lancelot's Lamb Shank" at the nearby Knights Table!!  We could also drive a little further.

The total distance is about 10 miles, with some ups and downs for sure, but we're by no means walking (or, ahem, cycling) up to Flash from sea level.  We can also shorten the route slightly if the weather turns foul.

Definitely boots rather than trainers, and not jeans if you don't want to be cold and miserable when it rains.

Kit list: hat, gloves, warm clothes, waterproof jacket and trousers, walking trousers walking boots as may be slippy tea flask.

Regular walking can...

  • fill you with energy and confidence
  • help you beat stress
  • make your heart fitter and strengthen your bones
  • help you keep your weight down
