An afternoon of art and appreciation of the modern cultural landmark that is The Urbis Centre. Current Exhibitions: Black Panther: Emory Douglas and the Art of Revolution. 40 years on from the Mexican Olympics in 1968,find out how Emory Douglas, first and only Minister of Culture for the Black Panther Party turned the Black Power Salute into a powerful emblem of equality. Reality Hack: Hidden Manchester A series of newly commissioned works from experimental photographer, Andrew Paul Brooks, documenting his journeys with Manchester’s official and unofficial custodians of the hidden city to reveal its concealed, restricted and sometimes forgotten spaces. State of the Art Light Boxes As part of their forthcoming State of the Art: New York exhibition (opens April 09) artist group Forays have created a satellite exhibit at Shudehill Station. Light boxes display ‘hack charts’, exploring ways to re-use infrastructures of a city, particularly New York and Manchester. Their exhibitions offer unique insights into the culture of the modern city, about Manchester, art and culture including innovative explorations of design, architecture, graffiti, music and the urban environment. The Social, their stylish café bar, has a tasty menu and distinctive atmosphere. Lunch is also an option. The Social Circle fee for this event is £7.50. Any drinks or food are additional and payable by you. No more bookings are being taken for this event.
