This is very much a hands-on experience; we’ll involve you in working the locks and give you a turn of steering the 69ft narrowboat.

We’ll travel though the 300 metre Hyde Bank Tunnel and cruise high over the River Goyt on the stunning Marple Aqueduct, before working through 16 locks at Marple.

At the top of the locks we’ll have lunch as we continue cruising along one of the most scenic and highest canals in the country – the Upper Peak Forest, which skirts the Peak District National Park. There are manual lift and swing bridges to operate as we cruise the final stretch before mooring up in Disley Village for a drink in the warm surroundings of the gorgeous Rams Head.

Highlights include:

  • Have a go at steering the 69ft Narrowboat

  • Travel across Marple Aqueduct, high over the River Goyt

  • Learn how to operate the locks in Marple

  • Work lift and swing bridges on the stunning Upper Peak Forest Canal

Price includes:

  • Fully hosted Canal Boat Experience

  • Lunch platter of meats, cheeses, bread and salad

  • Hot drinks: Fairtrade tea, ground coffee, hot chocolate & marshmallows

  • Homemade cake

Excludes:

  • Train fares to and from the start and finish points

  • Alcoholic drinks

What to bring:

  • Footwear with good grip like hiking boots, or walking trainers

Suitable clothing for the weather, which could be any or all of the following:

  • Sunhat and Suncream

  • Waterproof Jacket

  • Warm jumper/fleece

  • Gloves (some people find winding lock paddles more comfortable when wearing gloves – make sure they don’t have any grip on the palms).

We have a licensed and very reasonable honesty bar on the boat. Please do not bring your own alcohol. Thanks.
