Salford’s finest festival of new music, Sounds From the Other City, returns on Bank Holiday Sunday 4th May; this time celebrating 10 whole years of throwing the mother of all May Day parties along the banks of the Irwell across Salford’s Chapel St.

For 2014, we’re pleased to welcome back seasoned promoters like Now Wave, WotGodForgot, Faktion and Hey! Manchester plus new faces like Video Jam, Dub Smugglers and Liverpool collective Deep Hedonia. There’s also a slew of new venues to explore too from the winding railway arch of First Chop Brewing Arm, the blacked out Bexley Square Tent and the magnificent grandeur of the University of Salford’s Peel Hall and Maxwell Hall.

Highlights of this year’s bill include the A/v Art Rave at St Philips Church with one-off performances from Pan Records Lee Gamble and Karen Gwyer (No Pain In Pop) right through to  a selection of the best in rising alt-pop with hotly tipped Adult Jazz and Bernard & Edith at Peel Hall as well as the blissful sounds of Rosie Lowe at The Angel Centre. SFTOC 04 veterans, The Travelling Band bring us a one off performance of Neil Young’s ‘On the Beach’, PINS return from their American travels , Glasgow’s Golden Teacher unleash their noise-punk/house hybrid as well as the full on punk onslaught of Japanese/New York three-piece ZZZ’s. On top of it all we welcome the return of long-term collaborators Volkov Commanders as they overtake the festival with their otherworldly creations.
