Starring

Colin Firth, Reese Witherspoon, Alessandro Nivola, Amy Ryan, Dane Dehaan

Colin Firth and Reese Witherspoon star in the compelling true story of a murder trial that shocked America. In 1993, three eight-year-old boys are murdered in the US Bible Belt town of West Memphis, Arkansas. The community is traumatised by this appalling crime and three local teenage outcasts are soon charged with committing the murders as part of a Satanic cult ritual. Private investigator Ron Lax (Colin Firth) is initially in no doubt about the accused teens' guilt, but offers to help the defence because of his opposition to the death penalty. He becomes increasingly uneasy about the atmosphere of moral panic and lack of evidence to support the prosecution. So too does Pamela Hobbs (Reese Witherspoon), the heartbroken mother of one of the victims, despite her natural desire for closure. The 'West Memphis Three' have already inspired four documentaries. Now acclaimed film-maker Atom Egoyan presents an engrossing fictionalisation of this disturbing case.
