Keswick is the North Lakes' most popular day trip destination.
Nestling between the Skiddaw Mountains and Derwentwater Lake, the town is situated in an idyllic location in the Lake District National Park.
Dodd Wood Forest
Dodd Wood is leased from the Mirehouse Estate, and is on the East shore of Bassenthwaite Lake. Now managed by the Forestry Commission, the forest was created by Thomas Storey of Mirehouse in 1790. Some of the magnificent old trees can still be seen surrounding the car park.
Lake District Osprey Project
Ospreys returned to breeds at loch Garten in the Scottish Highlands in 1954, after many years of absence. Since then, the Scottish osprey population has expanded and now numbers about 150 pairs.
In the last ten years ospreys have regularly been seen fishing over a number of Cumbrian Lakes, raising the hope that they may breed one day.
Ospreys are spectacular fish-eating birds of prey with a wingspan of nearly five feet. Look out for their white head and undersides, which contrast with the rich brown upper parts. With razor sharp eyesight, an Osprey can spot a fish whilst hovering high above the Lake.
Cars Of The Stars Museum
In 1982, while filming the TV series 'The Spoils of War', Granada Television approached Keswick dentist Peter Nelson and asked if they could borrow his MG TC for use in the production.
It was as a result of this, that several years later Mr Nelson conceived the idea of building a motor museum featuring celebrity film and television vehicles. After purchasing the Old Oak Garage in Keswick, he began a two year search for cars with film and TV connections, and the unique museum opened to the public on 1st May 1989.
The Museum was officially opened in August 1990 by Gerry Anderson, who commissioned the building of Lady Penelope's pink Rolls Royce, FAB 1, to promote his puppet animation 'Thunderbirds'.
This museum features vehicles from TV and films, including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the Batmobile, Back to the Future Delorean, James Bond's Aston Martin, Del Boy's Reliant Robin, Knight Rider's KITT, Laurel & Hardy's Model T, FAB1, Bergerac, The Saint, The Prisoner, The Avengers, The A Team, The Flintstones, The Munsters and many other famous vehicles and motorcycles.
