Starring

Philip Seymour Hoffman, Willem Dafoe, Rachel McAdams, Robin Wright, Grigoriy Dobrygin, Daniel Bruhl

Philip Seymour Hoffman stars in a heart-stopping thriller adapted from spy novelist John le Carre's bestseller. A mysterious man arrives in modern-day Hamburg seeking help from the city's Islamic community. Tortured almost to the point of death, Issa (Grigoriy Dobrygin) claims to be half-Chechen and half-Russian. He's also looking to recover his late father's dubiously acquired fortune. It's not long before Issa has attracted the keen attention of the British, German and American security services, who are all keen to uncover his real identity. Is he a victim or a covert terrorist? Renowned espionage author John le Carre's 2008 bestseller was set against the topical backdrop of the War on Terror. Adapted by 'Edge of Darkness' co-writer Andrew Bovell, Anton Corbijn's follow-up to 'The American' is a tense and complex tale of modern-day intrigue. Philip Seymour Hoffman is cast as a rogue German spy while Rachel McAdams plays Issa's idealistic lawyer.
