Our book this month is The Buddha of Suburbia by Hanif Kureishi which won the Whitbread Award for the best first novel. It has been translated into 20 languages and was also made into a four-part drama series by the BBC in 1993, with a soundtrack by David Bowie. The Buddha of Suburbia is a satirical coming of age story set against a background of racial and social tensions in 1970s London. Karim is a half-English and half-Indian teenager struggling to find his place in the world and discover who he is. The Buddha of Suburbia examines human behaviour and how the choices we make affect those around us. http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Buddha-Suburbia-Hanif-Kureishi/dp/0571245870/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1409487898&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=buddha+of+surbubi
