Macbeth watch preview HERE.
The Met Opera's new Live in HD season launches in style with Adrian Noble's acclaimed 2007 production of Verdi's enduringly popular Shakespearean tragedy. When Scottish general Macbeth (Zeljko Lucic) encounters a group of witches, they prophesy that he will become king. Encouraged by his ambitious, scheming wife (Anna Netrebko), he murders King Duncan. The great Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi's lifelong love of Shakespeare first bore fruit in 1847 with his adaptation of one of the Bard's greatest tragedies. Adrian Noble has described this masterpiece of ambition, treachery and madness as "the greatest story Verdi ever told". His popular 2007 Met Opera production boldly relocates 'Macbeth' in a 20th century civil war setting. For the 2014 season, the opera returns with a new cast. Anna Netrebko sings the vocally demanding role of Lady Macbeth for the first time at the Met. Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi wields the baton. Cost includes your ticket and all booking fees.
