Sunday Walk In The Peak District

Join us for a great day out as we explore the area around Castleton, one of the principal tourist centres in the Peak District. Castleton is an loveley village situated at the head of the Hope Valey, in the heart of the Peak District National Park. It is surrounded by steep hills and the peak of Mam Tor. On a hill, overlooking Castleton, is the ancient Peveril Castle. Our walk will start in the center of Castleton and we will slowly make our way up to Hollins Cross. From here we walk along one of the finest ridge walks in the Peak Distirct, with outstanding views on both sides of the Hope valley and the Vale of Edale. The path takes us to the summit of Mam Tor (1695ft, 517m), where, weather permitting, there are some excellent views across the Peak Distict. We will then make our way down from the summit and continue downhill to Cave Dale. This lovely gorge is topped by the ruins of Perivale Castle. Then is it back down to Castleton and a well earned pint in a local Pub. Time permitting it may also be possible to visit on of the many caverns that are dotted around Castleton Walk Information Distance: 6 miles approx Time: 3 hours Terrain: along bridleways & footpaths – some parts may be muddy. Recommended footwear: Walking shoes Recommended clothing: Light trousers (not Jeans). Waterproofs amy be needed depending on the weather. Please also bring along a packed lunch, as we will not be back in Castleton until 2 or 3pm Any drinks or food are additional and payable by you.
