Nuremberg – Europe's Christmas capital.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! The enticing smells of mulled wine and rum punch, roasted almonds, Nuremberg bratwurst and gingerbread fill the air.
Nuremberg (Nürnberg), Bavaria’s second-largest city and the unofficial capital of Franconia, is an energetic place where the nightlife is intense and the beer is as dark as coffee. As one of Bavaria’s biggest draws it is alive with visitors year-round, but especially during the spectacular Christmas market.
Every year, we pay a visit to the Manchester Christmas Markets (and I'm sure we will this year too) but how about going to the world's finest?
When you smell anis, cinnamon and cloves, are you reminded of the Christmases of your childhood? Does the glow of candlelight warm your heart? We promise you that a visit to Nuremberg at Christmastime will awake your fondest memories and create new ones for years to come. Nuremberg in Advent is a place to anticipate the joy that Christmas brings … because Nuremberg is Germany’s Christmas City!

Then we will explore the exciting Nuremberg nightlife: the city has it all, from hip bars and karaoke venues to stylish clubs.
Sunday:* Situated on a hill overlooking the winding streets below, Nuremberg’s castle, Kaiserburg, has been a symbol of the city since the Middle Ages. There are three sections of the complex: the imperial castle fortress, the burgrave (headquarters of Medieval regional administration), and the municipal buildings of the Free Imperial City of Nuremberg (when Nuremberg was a city-state).
We will have the option to pay admission, which would allow us to explore the interior of the castle, including its residential Palace and double chapel, well house, and Sinwell Tower, but some of the best views of the Old City of Nuremberg can be seen from the courtyard, which is free to explore—comfortable shoes are a must for the uphill climb to get there.
