Here are our top tips to help you find your bearings and get the most out of your first visit to Amsterdam (which inevitably won't be your last).
Accommodation
The Bridge Hotel is 4* accomodation set in the heart of the centre of Amsterdam, just minutes away from some of the City Centre attractions. It offers an extensive, Dutch breakfast and convenient accommodation with free Wi-Fi and a TV. B
The hotel rooms are comfortably furnished and have large windows viewing the typical Amsterdam city scenery. All rooms booked via Social Circle overlook the Amstel River. Amsterdam City Centre is a great choice for travellers interested in walking, sightseeing and architecture and its hard to find a more suitable place to start from than this hotel.
Friday
After meeting at the airport, we will enjoy a short flight to Amsterdam and travel to our hotel by shuttlebus. After getting to know each other over a coffee,we will head out to take in the sights the best way possible: by bicycle!!
We will cycle through the quaint waterways and winding cobbled streets of the city and discover an eclectic selection of sights off the conventional tourists trail. Glide past the ambient Dam Square; see the historical landmarks and illuminated doorways of the infamous Red Light District; see the Palace and peak into the rich history at the museums. Of course we will stop and experience 'coffee shop' culture of the city with your knowledgeable guide and host.
The Social Circle Pub Crawl
No holiday would be complete without a legendary social circle pub crawl and we have an absolute cracker for you. Discover Amsterdam’s vibrant nightlife on an evening pub crawl with a professional party-goer guide. Explore the city’s most exuberant nightlife haunts and absorb the electric atmosphere of bars, pubs and clubs. To ensure a cheerful day out in this beautiful city, this convenient walking tour of the city center will show you some of the best tasting houses and independent breweries in the city. At each stop you’ll have the chance to learn more about the history of brewing in Amsterdam, and of course, sample some of the city’s finest beer and snacks.
Explore the Mysteries of Jordaan
Work together as a team to solve the series of 14 clues and questions, replying to each one via text in order to receive the next question. Each clue will guide you to a different destination in the lively Jordaan District, passing the neighborhood’s most striking monuments, markets, street art hotspots, and little-known local haunts. After solving all the clues and completing the trail, your tour ends on Haarlemmerstraat where we can enjoy a well earned drink.
The Red Light District.
Looking for a culture shock? Look no further. Amsterdam’s Red Light Districts are unlike anything else in Europe. These wild streets are home to some of the most unbelievable sights in the city. The oldest of the Red Light districts, De Wallen, is earned it’s reputation in the 16th century, when its streets were packed with sailors on shore leave. Today its streets are packed with visitors to Amsterdam who want to learn its steamy secrets.
Whether you just wander through, visit the erotica museum or more is up to you. However, this is not just a trip for the guys. Both ladies and gents are catered for with burlesque shows, naked sushi and rather steamy workshops!
Giethoorn: Venice of the Netherlands
Board a boat for a 1-hour guided tour of Giethoorn, cruising down the quiet village waterways, ducking under wooden bridges, and learning about life in the area, which was once a waterlogged swamp. After the boat tour, you’ll have some free time to explore Giethoorn on your own, following narrow walking paths, browsing for souvenirs, or simply soaking up the easy-going atmosphere of the village. Don’t miss Giethoorn’s distinctive thatched-roof houses, which are fringed with small patches of green grass and compact gardens.
Tiptoe through Tulips
The Keukenhof Gardens tour gives you plenty of time to wander along a maze of pathways lined with millions of vibrant tulips, as well as other springtime blooms like daffodils, bluebells and hyacinths. Walk past ponds, brooks and greenhouses, before joining the group for a picnic in the park.
The Hague
The Hague is a royal city with a high feel-good factor. After all, you might spontaneously encounter members of the Royal Family on the street!!. You'll also stumble upon the House of Orange; the many historical monuments, the presence of residential and working palaces, royal thoroughfares and horse-drawn coaches all within 15 minutes of a beautiful beach perfect for sipping a cold beer and watching the sunset.
Cheese & Wine Canal Cruise
Enjoy an amazing 2 hour cruise of Amsterdam’s historic canal network! Soak up the beautiful sights and sounds of the canals of Amsterdam, charmingly lit and lined by stately and picturesque buildings. As you drift through the city you can enjoy a mouth watering cheese platter and a choice of selected wines. This is definitely the most appetising way to explore the beauty of Amsterdam!
Amsterdam has some of the most beautiful canals in the world. These wonderful waterways are more than 300 years old, and are lined by some of the most visually striking examples of Dutch architecture in The Netherlands. No visit to Amsterdam is really complete without a canal crawl, and combing your cruise with a platter of authentic Dutch cheese is the perfect way to see the city from this unique perspective.
Zaanse Schans, Marken and Volendam
Leave Amsterdam behind for a few hours and discover the typical Dutch countryside outside the capital. You'll drive through a picture-perfect landscape crisscrossed with canals, see authentic wooden houses, windmills and fishing villages, and witness traditional crafts from days gone by. The picturesque village of Zaanse Schans is famous for its original buildings, vividly capturing Dutch life in the 17th and 18th centuries. You'll see the historic shipyard and windmills, and pay a visit to a shoemaker who works with wood to watch his clog-making techniques first-hand!
