This venerable institution has been an integral part of Manchester life for over one hundred years. It has galeries dedicated to archaelolgy, archery, botany, Egyptology, ethnology, geology, numismatics, Oriental studies and zoology amongst many others. Of particular interest are the terrifying mummies at the Egyptology section, a gigantic skeleton of a sperm whale hanging from the roof of the zoology section which also boasts a Vivarium housing exotic reptiles including snakes, lizards and frogs and an exploration of the lower trunk and root system of a two humdred million year old lycosid tree found in a coal mine.
Meeting at 12.00 at the museum, we'll go for a cup of tea of coffee to wind down our Sunday after the trip.
Cost, £5 (admin costs)
