Blencathra via Foule Crag from Scales

Length: 8 miles / 13km

Duration: 4 – 5 hours

Difficulty: moderate/hard ridge traverse and some easy scrambling

Blencathra is an iconic mountain in the Northern Lake District dominating the scene on the approach to Keswick along the A66 from Penrith. There are many interesting routes to the summit and the route we will take approaches from the east and uses quieter paths for much of the way. The route is not technically difficult but it is 8 miles and includes nearly 900m of ascent, with a ridge traverse so is not for the faint hearted.  The views from the top make the scramble worth while!

Kit list: fleece, hat, gloves (it may be windy on the ridge), waterproof jacket/over trousers, walking boots, walking trousers (not jeans!), water bottle/flask, packed lunch.
