Edale to New Mills via Kinder Scout - Linear Walk

Distance:  14 miles

Duration: 6 hours walking

Difficulty:  4 (Demanding - a few steep ascents and rock scrambling).

This is a linear walk starting in Edale and ending in New Mills about 16:30 and then to the pub for a well deserved Sunday Roast!

This is a varied walk which takes you through Edale Village then a slow ascent with beautiful scenery along Grindsbrook Clough. Some rock scrambling takes you up onto the plateau of Kinder. Once on the top a fairly flat walk along to Crowden Tower and the Wool Pack Stones, which are some amazing gritstone rock formations carved out by wind and rain, a chance to take some photos and break for lunch.

Continuing along towards Kinder Low Trig Point, over boggy ground (can be very muddy here) and joining the Pennine Way towards Kinder Downfall and along the plateau with some spectacular viewpoints, until descending down William Clough towards Hayfield Reservoir and into Hayfield. A final 3 mile stroll following the River Goyt along the Sett Valley Trail back into New Mills for a well deserved Sunday Roast and a few pints!

Kit list: Hiking boots (not trekking shoes please), walking trousers (no jeans, or tracksuit bottoms), Gaiters advisable but not essential, waterproofs essential, fleece, hat, gloves, water, flask optional, packed lunch & money for train & pub, head torch if you have one, but not essential.
