Stanage Edge and Burbage Rocks from Hathersage
Distance: 10.3 miles Difficulty: 3 Duration: 5h
We will begin our walk in Hathersage, a pretty Derbyshire village featuring in the Domesday Book, by going past the grave of Robin Hood’s companion Little John in the local churchyard and by the North Lees Hall, believed to be an inspiration for Thornfield Hall in Charlotte Brontë’s “Jane Eyre”. From there we will climb onto the Stanage Edge, the largest and most impressive of the gritstone edges and a popular rock climbing site. We will then continue onto the Burbage Rocks before descending to the woodlands near Upper Padley and following onto another impressive gritstone formation and a popular climbing spot, the Millstone Edge. We will finish our walk at the Plough Inn in Hathersage, which recently got awarded Derbyshire Dining Pub of the year for 2011, over a Sunday roast and a pint.
