KERRIDGE TO LYME PARK
DISTANCE: 12 MILES
TIME: 6.5 HOURS
DIFFICULTY: 2.5 SOME STEEP ASCENTS BUT THEY ARE QUITE SHORT
The walk starts in the attractive village of Kerridge. From the car park on Jackson Lane, we head up to White Nancy, the famous landmark built in 1820 to commemorate the Battle of Waterloo. The walk will then take us across the open countryside of the Cheshire Peak District with rolling hills, farmland, quiet lanes, woodland and streams before crossing the moors and gently ascending Sponds Hill, the highest point of the walk at 410m, with fine views towards Kinder Scout and Shutlingsloe. We then walk across unspoiled grassland and woodland to one of Cheshire’s largest stately houses, Lyme Park, a 1400 acre deer park. After a well earned creamed tea in the Park’s tearoom, we head back towards the mill town of Bollington following the Gritstone Trail and back to our cars. There is then the option of sampling one of the many locally produced ales at the Vale Inn in Bollington.
Kit list: walking boots (no trainers), hiking trousers (no jeans), gaiters, warm clothes, waterproofs, hat, gloves, tea flask, sandwich
