Stanage Edge: A naturally weathered Millstone Grit face which is now known as a highly popular location for rock climbing in the Peak District. Situated on the moors north of Hathersage, and visible from miles away down in the Hope Valley, it stretches for a length of approximately six kilometres (3.5 miles) from its northern tip at Stanage End to the southern point near the Cowper Stone. Its highest point is High Neb at 458 metres (1,503 ft) above sea level.

There is a cave hidden in Stanage Edge, which allegedly was a look out of favourite local hero, Robin Hood.  A balcony from the cave offers impressive views of the countryside beyond.  The entrance is hidden and you have to crawl in through a medium sized hole to get in!

Essential items: Hiking Boots, Waterproofs, Walking Trousers (not Jeans or Joggers), Water, Packed Lunch, Snacks & Money for Train Journey and possibly a pub stop at the end of the walk! (Hat & gloves, sun cream, hot drink not essential, personal preference).

Regular walking can...

  • fill you with energy and confidence
  • help you beat stress
  • make your heart fitter and strengthen your bones
  • help you keep your weight down
