Distance: 10 miles
Difficulty: 3 (one steep ascent)
Duration: 4 hours
This walk follows the less frequented paths in the Kinder Scout area and offers great views of that famous gritstone plateau. We will park at the Bowden Bridge car park in Hayfield and begin a steady ascent over the Kinder Reservoir via the picturesque William Clough, the starting point of the infamous mass trespass that paved the way for open access to the moorlands. From the top of the path we will go onto Mill Hill and then to the trig point at Harry Hut. From there, we will cross the road and join the Pennine Bridleway onto the Lantern Pike, to enjoy the view over Kinder Scout and Hayfield. Afterwards, we’ll descend into Birch Vale and follow the Sett Valley Trail back to the car park and to a hearty Sunday dinner at the Sportsman Inn in Hayfield.
