Black Hill is the third and the northernmost of the gritstone and peat plateau hills so characteristic for the Dark Peak area. It’s lower than Bleaklow and Kinder but as boggy, dark and weather-beaten. Pennine Way passes across Black Hill, traversing from Crowden in the Longendale valley to Wessenden and Standedge to the north and we will use it in our ascent of the hill. The south part of the path near Crowden also goes past Laddow Rocks, one of the places where Peak District rock-climbing was born and rock climbers can often be seen here in summer. After the walk we’ll drive to Tintwistle for a well deserved pint and roast at the Bull's Head.
Kit list: hat, warm clothes, waterproof jacket and trousers, walking trousers walking boots as may be slippy tea flask.
