‘It was the best of pints. It was the worst of pints’. So begins Charles Dickens’s classic drinking novel An Ale of Two Cities. We will have you believing tall tales like this after we raise a glass or two –at the Peveril of the Peak pub, named after a Walter Scott novel and in the drinking den underneath the Portico Library – on our annual Boho Literary Pub Tour. We will toast the literary greats who have imprinted their mark on the city: George Orwell, Brendan Behan, Anthony Burgess, Elizabeth Gaskell, Percy Bysshe Shelley and Thomas De Quincey.
