There is nothing more beautiful than the scenic glory of the Lake District in summer. This is a very popular weekend break!

Grasmere is a charming village right in the heart of the Lake District National Park in Cumbria, England. Within easy reach are the honey pot towns of Ambleside, Keswick, Hawkshead, Coniston, Bowness and Windermere.

Grasmere Lake lies to the south of the village, around which there are some gentle walks for those that prefer the lower ground. For those that prefer a greater challenge, in Grasmere you're centrally situated for taking on the craggy peaks of the Scafell Pikes,

Accommodation: Grasmere Independent Hostel - 4*

This is the perfect setting for a group of like minded people who enjoy scenic views, walking, history and socialising. We can provide the perfect location for enjoying everything the Lake District has to offer.

This small 24 bed deluxe 4 star hostel is situated on Broadrayne farm in the very heart of the Lake District National Park, midway between Windermere and Keswick, flanked on all sides by the fells, with the picturesque village of Grasmere a short stroll away.

Itinerary:

Friday

Arrival with home cooking and ‘meet and greet’ the group with some fun social drinks at a local pub which is just a five minute walk away.

Saturday

There are two options: Langdale Pikes or a Lakeside Walk

Option 1 – Langdale Pikes, 7-8 miles, medium hard

Langdale Pikes are absolutely stunning and possibly the most photographed of all the Lake District Fells. This walk from Old Dungeon Ghyll to the iconic tops of Pike Of Stickle and Harrison Stickle and then Thunacar Knott, High Raise, Sergeant Man, Tarn Crag and Blea Crag covers a total of eight of Wainwright's fells in one fabulous 7-8 mile trip. And if you're up for it, we can also do a scramble or two!

Distance 7-8 miles, difficulty 3.5 (one steep ascent, one steep descent; possibility of 4 if you fancy an easy scramble), duration 5-6h.

Option 2 – Rydal Water and Grasmere Lake – approx 5miles - easy

For those slightly less adventurous. Leaving directly from the accommodation, this charming walk takes us past ‘Dove Cottage’ home of the legendary poet William Wordsworth and up into the woodland that surrounds two stunning lakes. From Grasmere, we shall walk to Rydal Mount, where Wordsworth lived until his death, where we can stop at the Badger Bar for a well earned halfway pint!

After a drink in the pub we will continue on our way and be rewarded with spectacular views of the two lakes – Rydal Water and Grasmere Lake. We will stop for lunch on the banks of Rydal Water before walking along the shoreline of Grasmere Lake back into Grasmere.

Both groups will then meet up back at the accommodation for a hearty home-cooked evening meal and a well deserved glass of wine!

Sunday - Alcock Tarn and Easedale Tarn – approx 8 miles - moderate

After a lazy start reading the papers and having had a full English breakfast you are free to potter around Grasmere or drive into neighbouring Ambleside or Windermere.
