£89 Stunning Cotswolds Weekend 12th - 14th September

Famed for its grand Georgian architecture and hot springs, Bath is a World Heritage City of many contrasts. Set on the southern edge of the Cotswolds, a series of gently rolling hills and honey-coloured villages that are quintessentially English. This is an area of stone walls, hidden river valleys and distinctive market towns and villages made of the famous Cotswold stone.

Towns such as Winchcombe, Bibury and Painswick have a timeless charm that fascinate visitors from all over the world. These small towns and villages that lie between Bath and Stratford-upon-Avon are still the focus of activity in the Cotswolds. Many of them have become known throughout the world for their mellow stone buildings, village greens and medieval market places.

Accommodation:

Bath Backpackers Hostel provides affordable, quality accommodation close to Bath centre and offers hearty breakfasts and quality evening meals in its restaurant. http://www.yha.org.uk/hostel/bath

Itinerary:

Friday

We will arrive at our accommodation early afternoon, settle and refresh before heading into the centre of Bath for lunch.

Following lunch we will be visiting the famous Roman Baths (a MUST for anyone visiting the area).

The Roman Baths

This is one of the most visited attractions in the Cotswolds.

Set around Britain's only hot spring, the Romans built a magnificent temple and bathing complex that still flows with natural hot water. See the water's source and walk where Romans walked on the ancient stone pavements around the steaming pool. The extensive ruins and treasures from the spring are beautifully preserved and presented using the best of modern interpretation. Meet Roman costumed characters every day and hear the stories of those who lived and worked here 2,000 years ago..

Evening

We will be staying in Bath, grabbing an evening meal and visiting a number of pubs and wine bars to socialise the night away!

Saturday Morning / Afternoon

After eating breakfast we will take our packed lunches and set off on our scenic walk:

Grade - 3 Distance - 7 miles

Marshfield is about 20 mins  from Bath, 8 miles away.

Marshfield was a historically important local town, bue to its location in the Costswold wool country. There is evidence of a Saxon town form at least AD931. The town appears in the Domesday book ( AD 1086 ) As 'Meresfelde'. By 1344 it was the fourth most prosperous town in the area. The walk starts from Marshfield town centre which leads us Halldoor Wood which includes many a fine view of St Catherines Valley. There the walk leads us too Cold Aston where we will stop for a bite to eat and a pint and take in the fine Cotswold countryside, then we will head back to Marshfield drive back to Bath and party the night away.

Evening

With the bustling city of Bristol only 30 minutes away from our accommodation we head into the city which boasts a plethora of pubs, clubs and wine bars.

Sunday Morning

A hearty breakfast at our accommodation followed by a relaxing read of the Sunday papers.

Then we will be heading home, however, en-route we will be visiting Wiltshire and the extremely well-known…

Stonehenge

Stonehenge was constructed in three phases. It has been estimated that the three phases of the construction required more than thirty million hours of labour..Speculation on the reason it was built range from human sacrifice to astronomy. Estimated at 3100 BC

Type of stone: Bluestone, Sarsen, Welsh Sandstone

After grabbing lunch nearby we will be heading back to Manchester for a late afternoon arrival.

What's included: accommodation at the YHA, the professional mountain guide and a great time!

Book a place and recharge your batteries during a relaxing and revitalising short break. Just 30 minutes a day of walking will improve your health and wellbeing. By becoming more active you will have a great sense of achievement, more energy, sleep better and reduce your stress levels.

Please note the planned walks are dependent on local conditions and the itinerary may change due to weather conditions on the weekend. Rest assured though that we will still find walks to suit the conditions and provide you with a fun packed social weekend.

I enjoy organised walks as part of group but either my mates are just not into it or the ones that are can’t commit to any dates, so having Social Circle organise it all means I can just do it and have some fun in the process meeting some new people. Louise Timperly
