The menu was chosen to feature dishes from every region in Japan. In 1993 Japanese food was hard to find and expensive. Samsi aimed for the balance of authenticity and trying to convert the most reserved British taste buds. Smoked salmon sushi was originally frowned on by sushi gurus but served by them first 18 years ago.They cater well for sushi connoisseurs too, although it is only a fraction of the menu.
Incredibly, due to the weakening of the Japanese Yen and the lower cost of authentic ingredients imported to Britain, the prices at Samsi have not increased over the 20 years it has been open, making the experience excellent value too.
